7 Steps to decalcify and improve pineal function
Secret ingredient: to awakening or cat poo?
Read on to find out.
(Spoiler: it’s Tamarind not cat poo! lol)
Why cleanse your pineal gland?
You may have already heard about the pineal gland. As a gland it creates and secretes certain chemicals/hormones that change other parts of your body, based on the information it receives.
Your pineal is a cone-shaped gland about the size of a pea (varying from person to person and throughout life) and sits in the centre of your brain. The pineal gland is extremely sensitive to what is going on with your Physiology. There are several physical elements, which I’ll share about, that affect the expression and function of this gland. Ultimately it has an enormous effect on how you feel and your emotions.
The pineal gland is responsible for the release of melatonin physically and metabolically. It’s interesting because the pineal gland and the release of melatonin influences the sleep/wake cycle. In fact, the release of melatonin directly corresponds with the cycles of dark and light that we are exposed to. The highest levels of melatonin are naturally found at night. Your sleep cycles are governed by it.
The presence of light on the eyes, or the absence of it, sends signals to the pineal gland. Which is why screens at night are a bad thing for sleep. More about that later. Research has shown that anatomically when human beings are obese they have smaller pineal glands. When you combine this information with the knowledge later in this article it makes sense.
With an excess of light and poor diet melatonin levels become low. This can lead to sleep disorders and completely mess up your super important sleep cycles. When melatonin levels are good then it helps to prevent insomnia and ensure you get deep restorative sleep.
The pineal does so much more than that though! Melatonin has deep connections to your circadian rhythms and the 24-hour clock (i.e. your body’s cycles and the sun’s cycles). When you expose yourself to darkness in alignment with the sun’s cycles, you’re more likely to produce melatonin at healthy levels.
Melatonin is a happy hormone. And, if your melatonin levels are increasing, then over time you can experience reduced levels in depression which naturally means you feel happier. It brings balance to your inner-rhythms. Maybe it works for you to see it as having balance between lows and highs, or between activity and rest.
My experience has taught me that there are always going to be days when one feels heavier. There are always going to be some elements of pain, fear and dread. But, these elements of human existence don’t have to dominate your life. With practice, including cleansing your pineal gland, you can manage and cope with fear and pain better. Ultimately creating a healthier relationship with pain.
Who doesn’t want to have a better pain threshold?
What cleansing your pineal gland will offer you is: the opportunity for expansion, not only into the realms of joyful living, but into the expansion of spirituality and releasing old subconscious pain. Awakening the boundless gifts of the “third eye”.
There are scientists who try to reject that the pineal gland and the third eye are connected. Personally, I feel that these dogmatic approaches to “western” science are unhelpful. Everything is connected. There are ancient civilisations that have untapped knowledge from the past that we have simply forgotten along the way. But, we are ready to rediscover and reclaim these ancient ways now.
You only have to look at the Eye of Ra and the physical structure of the brain to see the connections. The Egyptians knew full well the power of the pineal gland and the seat of consciousness.
This is described and explored in many other books and you only have to look at the work of Graham Hancock to see that even the Western historical literature that we are provided is not aligned with all the new ancient evidence people are discovering.
My journey with pineal cleansing began with a bizarre side track. I was completely wrong in what I thought was happening to me and for what reason. It’s only now in retrospect that I can see the truth.
In my mid adult life, I was experiencing enormous pain in my joints. This gradually became worse over time. It was also influenced by several factors including poor diet, alcohol, distracting with food and experiencing deep trauma, stress, and anxiety.
Sometimes, I would wake up in the morning and I would have stabbing sharp needle-like pains in my feet. Sometimes it felt like there was glass ground into the joints of my big toes and knuckles. Each tiny movement shot agony up my legs and into my spine and through my nervous system. In the morning, it would take being with the pain and slow movement to “get going”.
Have you experienced anything like that?
I was experiencing early onset arthritis and gout. This reached a peak of pain when I experienced kidney stones. I describe this sensation like having a red hot poker slowly inserted into my lower back, which then sent nerve pain deep into my pelvis and groin and up into my head.
Oxalate crystals were forming and moving through my kidneys. I didn’t know this at the time. The knowledge would not have helped me with the three-day journey of hell.
Three Days of Hell.
By day three of this experience I thought “this is it, it’s time to top myself”. Sometimes the pain would be so excruciating, that I’d be screaming into my pillow for my mum. “Mum” I’d be screaming to myself (my inner-child coming through here!), into my pillow. Then, (as the movement in my kidney ceased for a pause of 10 minutes, I’d consider how best to kill myself.
For me, this was a lesson in pain but also, it began my journey with pineal cleansing. Thankfully, on the third day I went to the toilet, and despite what you may think, easily and painlessly passed a little stone out of my wee which plopped into the toilet. I was astonished! I fished out the stone and when it was tested it was identified as a calcium oxalate stone.
I then began a journey of cleansing myself, misguidedly believing that because it was a calcium oxalate crystal that the calcium was the problem. I knew nothing about oxalates and the kidney stone clinic gave me simple and basic diet information. The information was incomplete and not even up to date by current Western science standards. No one in the medical practices I accessed explained about Oxalates. I had a degree in Nutrition, and I didn’t even know either! Knowledge and information were absent.
I was told “100%, you will have stones again in a five-year period”. I would prove them wrong and demonstrate the statistics were false. And, this false belief was being provided by consultants to their patients!
So I thought, it’s calcium. Like I said, I was wrong, and I went down a rabbit hole. The calcium was not the problem, the oxalates were the problem and the fact that my pineal gland was already calcified and I had calcification in my body because of all the “health foods” and “unhealthful foods” I’d been eating.
Processed foods, junk foods, high sugar – all that stuff is detrimental to the pineal gland. But, there are foods labelled as “healthy” that cause crystallisation too, like spinach, almonds, berries, chard and beets to name a few.
If you want to connect to your higher self then, high power junk food is one the worst things that you feed your body. I was also obese at the time. I had been eating a high fat and high sugar diet, self-soothing from the trauma of the birth of my triplet daughters. So, it was probably shrinking my pineal gland through the effects of stress and trauma too.
My recovery was long and arduous, with many false starts and rabbit holes. But, I found and developed a clear path over almost a decade to cleansing the pineal.
Of course, I have no way to measure the pineal gland, it’s a felt-sense experiential thing – you will know if you are on this path!
My journey is not over yet, will it ever be? The journey to self-realisation and actualisation continues. I don’t want you to have to go through years of pain and suffering so I hope you can see the truth and wisdom in the steps below and how you can change your life.
If I had this information ten years ago my life would have changed almost overnight and in only seven days I would have experienced relief! (I’ve not mastered time travel yet).
I could go into detail about the chemical basis for the advice I’m about to give you but what I want to do is keep it as concise as possible, so that you know exactly what you can do to take action right now to have the biggest effects in your life.

7 Great Steps To Cleanse The Pineal
Step 1
Remove the Hidden Toxins in Your Diet
The first thing to do is cut out all processed foods. That means toxic seed oils, hydrogenated fats, and highly processed sugars—all that stuff. Eating wholefoods is the first step towards cleansing the body and reducing the toxic load.
Processed foods are those that have gone through a refining process which negatively alters their natural, health-giving properties. For some people, hearing what that actually includes can be triggering—I know this personally. It’s not just obvious junk food. It includes things like beans, oats, chia seeds, muesli, cereal bars, and more.
Step 2
Cut Down Oxalate-Heavy Foods to Protect Your Body
It’s not as simple as just eating unprocessed wholefoods. Again, I learned this the hard way. You’re also going to need to reduce the amount of oxalate-producing plants in your diet.
Oxalates—which include oxalic acid, oxalic salts, and oxalate crystals—are natural plant toxins. They exist as part of a plant’s immune system, designed to protect the plant from being eaten by animals. Oxalates are most densely found in the leaves and stems of plants.
Here are a few of the top offenders: spinach, beetroot, beets, potatoes, almonds, some teas, rhubarb, and soy.
This is a massive and nuanced area of knowledge, and unfortunately, Google and other internet search engines often provide almost entirely FALSE information. So, watch out!
The best and most reliable source of information I can recommend is Sally Norton’s book, Toxic Superfoods. Her work offers a careful and considered approach to understanding oxalates and their real impact on the body.
If you’re serious about this journey, you will need a personalised strategy and plan. You may want to reach out to someone with a holistic background in nutrition—someone who truly understands the broader context of healing, not just what’s trendy online.
.
Step 3
Alcohol: The Hidden Saboteur of Your Pineal Health
I do have to mention alcohol. Ethanol—the active ingredient in alcoholic drinks—is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen. It causes massive disruption and dysregulation of hormones and tissues throughout the body. It’s especially deadly for the pineal gland and the thyroid, among other critical organs.
Drinking alcohol also prevents the proper absorption of tryptophan. And the amount of tryptophan circulating in the brain is critical. Why? Because tryptophan is the precursor to melatonin—the hormone your pineal gland releases to regulate sleep, healing, and emotional balance. Low tryptophan = low melatonin.
When melatonin production drops, the pineal gland can no longer function properly. Your sleep suffers, your rhythms are disrupted, and your sense of inner balance deteriorates. Over time, alcohol reduces overall happiness and joy. FACT.
Put simply:
Don’t drink booze. It’s bad for you.
Step 4
Fluoride: The Silent Saboteur of Brain Function
Fluoride makes you stupid. (No joke—see what happened to rats.)
If you consume too much fluoride, it doesn’t just affect your pineal gland—it impacts multiple areas of the brain. Over time, fluoride accumulation can lead to cognitive decline, hormonal disruption, and emotional instability.
You might want to seriously consider switching to a fluoride-free toothpaste and distilling or carefully filtering your water if you live in an area with fluoridated water. (Apparently, Hampshire isn’t fluoridated—so there’s some good news if you’re local.)
Shifting Gears: From Detox to Activation
So far, the focus has been on removing the toxins that burden the pineal gland—steps 1 through 4.
Now, we’re moving into something different. Steps 5 to 7 are about actively improving and supporting the healing process.
This is where the refining happens. But let’s be clear: if you don’t first remove the toxic load, these next steps won’t have the impact they could. Detoxifying comes first, clearing the way for your natural healing cycles to switch back on—and then you can build from there.
Step 5
Iodine: A Key Mineral for Pineal Cleansing and Beyond
Iodine doesn’t just influence thyroid function—it also has the ability and potential to cleanse and support the health of your pineal gland. It’s one of those minerals that modern diets often overlook, but it’s absolutely essential if you’re serious about inner healing.
You can access iodine naturally through various food sources like seaweed, fish, sea salt, unpasteurised grass-fed dairy, eggs, and beef or chicken liver. These wholefoods offer iodine in its most bioavailable forms.
One thing to watch out for, though, is goitrogens—compounds found in certain foods that can inhibit iodine absorption. It’s important to take into account everything that could interfere with your iodine intake if you really want to maximise its benefits.
Personally, I enjoy a few fresh oysters every couple of weeks—they’re not only rich in iodine but also packed with other minerals that support the body’s natural detoxification systems.
If you have poor thyroid function, there is LOTS you can do to recover!
Step 6
Citric Acid and Oxalate Breakdown: Proceed with Care
You can consume citric acid naturally by drinking a little lemon juice every day. This can support the breakdown of oxalates in your body, helping you flush more of that stuff out through your kidneys.
But a word of caution: please seek proper support if you’re beginning a low-oxalate diet. Rapid shifts can cause what’s known as oxalate dumping, where crystals start moving out of your tissues too quickly. I experienced this myself—completely by accident—and let me tell you, the pain is absolutely not recommended.
Oxalate dumping puts a heavy load on the kidneys, and if not managed carefully, it can cause kidney damage or even trigger infections.
Slow and steady wins the race here. Crystals leaving the body can overload your kidneys if the process is rushed. You have been warned—seek professional support and guidance if you’re making changes in this area.
Step 7
Tamarind Fruit: A Sweet Ally for Pineal Cleansing
The 7th step in this series involves an interesting little fruit that, quite honestly, looks a bit like cat poop. But don’t be put off—because this little fruit tastes sweet like honey and is seriously delicious.
It’s tamarind fruit.
Research and studies have shown that consuming around 10 grams of tamarind a day, over a prolonged period, can gradually reduce calcification in the pineal gland. Tamarind gently supports the cleansing and healing process, helping your body release some of the buildup that has accumulated over time.
You can usually pick up tamarind by the box online, and once you get used to it, you might actually find yourself looking forward to it. Small, consistent steps like this really add up when it comes to supporting your body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Meditation: The Gateway to Inner Stillness
Meditation is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to support the cleansing and activation of your pineal gland. When you sit quietly and turn your awareness inward, you’re not just calming your nervous system—you’re creating the perfect internal environment for your pineal gland to thrive. Regular meditation helps to balance your circadian rhythms, regulate melatonin production, and quiet the overactive mind that so often disrupts your natural hormonal cycles. Through stillness and conscious focus, you allow your body’s innate intelligence to begin healing and recalibrating itself, restoring deeper rhythms that have always been there, waiting beneath the noise.
Breathwork: Activating the Body’s Natural Medicine
Breathwork takes this even deeper. When you engage in conscious, rhythmic breathing practices, you stimulate the movement of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spine, directly nourishing and activating the pineal gland. Over time, breathwork creates a vibrational energy that encourages the release of natural DMT—the so-called “spirit molecule”—which the pineal gland is believed to produce. This isn’t about chasing mystical experiences. It’s about reconnecting with your body’s innate capacity for clarity, creativity, and healing. Breath by breath, you gently “wake up” dormant parts of yourself, supporting not only better sleep and emotional balance but also a profound sense of connection to life itself.
The Role of Diet and DMT in Awakening Your Pineal Gland
This internal activation can be supported even further by your diet. A clean, natural way of eating—rich in nutrients, low in processed sugars and additives—helps balance the gut microbiome. When your gut is healthy, the beneficial bacteria are able to produce tryptamine from tryptophan, which in turn supports the generation of DMT within the body. This naturally occurring compound is not only essential for mental clarity and emotional balance—it also plays a vital role in connecting you to higher states of consciousness.
DMT, or Dimethyltryptamine, is a naturally occurring derivative of tryptamine found in plants, animals, and crucially—within your own body. In traditional cultures, DMT-containing plants were often combined to create sacred medicines designed for deep inner journeys. But the truth is, your body already knows how to access these states. You were born with the blueprint.
Breathwork and the Natural Release of DMT
Incredibly, DMT is also found naturally within the lungs. When you practice Connected Breathwork or other specific conscious breathing techniques, you stimulate the release of DMT directly from the lungs, allowing it to move upwards and activate the pineal gland.
Through conscious, connected breath, you can experience natural expansions of consciousness—without needing anything outside yourself. It’s already within you. All you have to do is breathe.

If you’re feeling called to experience this for yourself, now is the perfect time to begin. Through regular breathwork practice, you can reconnect to your body’s natural rhythms, cleanse your pineal gland, and access the deeper states of awareness and healing that are already waiting within you.
